Object-oriented testing?

Hi!

I've come across TestRail on my search for a testing database. It seems to be a very nice tool, with a lot of the functionality I am looking for (web-access, user access control, tracking results, history, etc.) One thing I can't figure out (and hoping someone might be able to help) is whether I can use it for my purposes.

What I really need is something like this: say, I have 100 valves, 50 motors, 30 transmitters. I need to create all these "objects" and each one of them is to have certain tests underneath it. I need an easy way to search for those "objects" to be able to see which tests have been done and what's outstanding. Some stats would be nice, too.

Sections/subsections seem to be one way of doing it (name each section as an object name I need), but I can't figure out a way to perform a search for them. Any suggestions?

Link to "Return to To Do" list

Hi, the dev guys here are asking if there's a feature (or one in the pipeline) to jump straight back to their Todo list of tests they were executing.  It seems that once you've clicked on a task in the Todo view, there's then several steps to navigate back, ie, you have to go back to the tab and then drill down again.

Maybe we're doing it wrong, please let us know?

Jira REST Plugin Not working

After setting up the Jira REST Plugin we are getting errors when trying to push an issue to Jira.

UI ERROR:

Cursor jump

Hello,

My folks have noticed a problem when putting in their test results or comments in and want to add an image within the text. 

The image is always inserted at the top of the comment field, rather than the current cursor position.  To put it in the proper place within the text, they have to cut and paste the image reference to where it belongs.

We're running TR v2.7.0.1978 with IE.

Linking to requirements

Hi

I've now moved to another project, same company, telling them about Testrail - it's under consideration for use!

Question - apart from linking to external systems, eg Redmine via story refs, is there a feature currently - or planned - to input requirements, so tests can be linked to those?

Push attachments to JIRA

When pushing a defect from TestRail to JIRA, it brings over the description of the failed test.  Is there a way to also get it to bring over attachments?

Feature Request - 'Resources' field for test cases

Hi there,

Great software! I'm a few days in to your trial now and still strongly considering that this app might be way to go for us.

I have a great interest in there being an additional field called 'Resources' for each test case, which can be used to describe what materials are required to actually carry out the test.

It's just an additional field, ultimately. It would be extraordinarily easy for you guys to add it in and I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated by a lot more test writers than just me!

Test Step Results

I read through the forums and haven't been able to find exactly what I'm looking for.

I know in the "Test Result Field" you can configure each test step to be pass/fail/untested, etc.

However is it possible to do something similar in the "Test Case Field" I've added the appropriate  customisation that works for "Test Result Field" but nothing is shown.

Also I don't really need a drop down with pass/fail/untested, etc contained within, a checkbox would be fine as we just need to have something to identify wheat step the tester got up to whilst testing, so that they don't duplicate work after dinner or the next day.

This would be particularly useful for test cases with many test steps.

Feature Request: add milestone to all tests in suite at suite level

Currently tests can be assigned to a milestone when being edited.
It would be useful to be able to select a suite of tests and set the milestone for all tests in that suite.

(Currently on v2.6, so please close if already available)

Getting error while importing an xml file

Hi,
I am new to the test rail.

I am getting error while I am importing an xml file .

The error message says:

Input is not proper UTF-8, indicate encoding ! Bytes: 0xCA 0x74 0x68 0x65

I am not sure what it is and how to resolve it.

feature request: format xml file before export

When exporting an test to XML, the resulting XML is not formatted/pretty-printed. trying to make sense of it in notepad it quite had and I have to resort to some online tool to format the layout.

Can the file be automatically formatted upon export? Seems like a simple enough fix.

steps not getting imported to test suite

Hi,
valid test rail XML file got <steps> info to execute the test case </steps>

when importing test cases using the xml file the steps are not getting populated in the test suite.

how to solve this?

Is it possible to undelete a test suite?

I have an intern who just accidentally deleted a test suite and wiped out months of work.  If this a permanent situation, or is there any way to undelete the removed test suite?

feature request: adding testsuite to testplans

Hello,
This is a two part request

1. allow users to add testplans without forcing them to select a testsuite. A lot of time, we don't really have the appropriate test suite and we are just in planning phase. Creating a framework by just adding empty testplans is fairly common. Once the team agrees with the skeleton test plans, we then work on adding tests/testsuites to the plan.

2. permission control for adding testplan and suites. Assuming that #1 is implemented, it then becomes important to control who can add/delete testplans vs add/delete testsuites to testplans. Allowing this level of control in the roles would be great.

Delete Test Run

Hey guys,

Was just wondering if there is a way to delete test runs? I ask because I really like the graphing features and they'll be great for a lot of applications but while actually playing around with our initial installation, I added a created a lot of test runs which have bogus results in them (I was just experimenting and getting a feel for how TestRail works).

Also, I'm sure that in the future it's likely that run results will lose their context relevant to how we intend to use TestRail.

So my question is, is it possible to delete test runs? Is it possible to remove them before AND/OR after 'locking' the results?

Jira_REST Plugin problem

Hello,

we have a problem with pushing test result to jira

we are using latest version of jira (5.2.x) hosted on our servers

We get this error message.

UTF-8 support of CSV export

We are using a hosted version 2.7.1.2102 of test rail. I've understood that UTF-8 support was added in the 2.0 version. However, CSV export didn't manage special character like 'ä'. Character 'ä' was exported instead of correct one. Are there any possibilities to get special characters working?

Hi All,

I am facing below error when i try to upload a test case.

Constant GI_ICON_DEFAULT_IDENT already defined [C:\inetpub\wwwroot\testrail\sys\helpers\icons.php:4] (at ErrorHandler::error)

TestRail version    2.7.1.2102
MS Server 2008 R2
IIS7.5 + PHP

Hope some one can enlighten me with this error.

Feature Request: Reporting on TestSuites

Hello,
One of the very common use case for for various test case management system is to be able to get some statistics around the inventory of test cases.

For example:
- how many tests are in a particular project
- how many tests are these with a particular field set to some value.
- how many tests have been added since some date
- how many test have been written by some person x


These are some very basic reporting features that come up all the time and need to be presented to management. Do you know if 'test suite' level reporting is part of the next reporting release ?
